History of Rajgarh Sadulpur

Rajgarh, originally the site of the ancient town Ludi ruled by Kanha Poonia, was founded in 1766 by Maharaja Gaj Singh of Bikaner and named after his eldest son, Raj Singh. Its suburb, Sadulpur, was established in 1920 and named after Kumar Shardul Singh, today functioning as a ward of the Rajgarh Municipality. Situated on the northeastern edge of the Thar Desert, the area experiences an extreme climate with temperatures ranging from below zero in winter to 48–50 degrees Celsius in summer, and receives only 5-10 inches of average rainfall. The historic Rajgarh Citadel, constructed in 1766 with massive 20-foot-high walls and four bastions, is now the site of the Mohta Public School. Rajgarh, which was a significant market and the main trade center yielding over 50 percent of Bikaner State’s revenue in 1874, is also a hub for religious sites with 40 to 50 temples. Today, the town’s railway station, Sadulpur Junction, is the busiest in the entire Bikaner division, handling 84 daily mail, express, and passenger trains with direct connectivity to over 45 major cities nationwide.
